Advanced Facebook Ads Targeting
Method 1- Using Fan Page Karma to Generate Ideas:
In this method, we’re going to use Fan Page karma to generate different ideas for our ads campaigns. This tool is very handy and helps to narrow down the best engaging and active pages to target in our ads campaigns.
Just put any Facebook page name into the insights box and press enter to get the insights.
Like I did for Barack Obama’s official Facebook fan page and saw what I get. The data is showing the currently engagement, average weekly growth and the post interactions.
The posting history of total reactions, comments and shares. The posting history is also describing the best type of posts with most shares and likes.
While scrolling down to the end of this data, you will also find the most used words that are generating more engagements and the words with the worst engagement experience.
What do you get from it?
Just put your competitors Facebook page into this tool and make a list of Facebook pages with more active fans and engagements. Define every data carefully and add these pages to your Facebook ads campaigns.
Method no 2- Synonyms to Find Similar Related Terms.
Synonyms are very useful if used correctly in our ads campaigns. Let’s go through it.
First, make a rough list of your essential keywords you want to target. Now Open Meriam Webster to find related words and synonyms. Let’s consider that our page is all about Food.
Here you go you just discovered the additional terms that your customers might use to describe themselves on Facebook just grab those synonyms and related words and add them to your list.
Method no 3- Audience Insights by Facebook
Audience Insights is a metrics tool owned by Facebook. The primary purpose of this tool is to help the marketers to find the best demographics for their businesses. The tool consists data of more than 25% people using Facebook every day on earth. The tool is free to use for everyone.
Let’s dig into it.
Go to https://www.facebook.com/ads/audience_insights
In this example, I’m going to add gaming as the primary interest and people age from 18 to 25 because as we all know the young audience is more passionate for games as compared to the old audience. The targeting country is Pakistan. Gender all. See what it looks like now:
Meanwhile exploring for demographics, you can also check the Page likes tab also to see the pages that are high with more affinity and relevancy.
What is affinity?
“When I like your page, I only get to see a small sample size of your page’s content. If I am engaging with the posts from your brand, Facebook will show me more of them. As the sample size grows, Facebook will learn which brands I am engaging with and which types of posts I like from those pages. Facebook assigns a higher value to those posts from that particular page in my newsfeed because I have liked, clicked on, shared, watched a video, or commented on those posts. In other words, Facebook is tracking which pages I interact with and which post types I engage with from that brand.” – Matt Rouse of Hook SEO
Make a list of pages with more affinity score and target them within your ads campaigns. Like we found “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” and see the audience size. Win-Win!
Furthermore, you can narrow down the audience according to other metrics also.
Just use these advanced targeting options to find the best results.
Method No 4- The Reddit Gun
Finding audience with Reddit is very powerful as Reddit alone generates more than 1 billion views monthly. Put your general keyword into the search box on the homepage, not the one located on the right-hand side.
In this method, I tested a game name “Dota” and see what I found it.
I picked the term “heroesofthestorm” and put it into the Facebook’s audience maker tool and see 😀
In this way, you can find more ideas for your Facebook ads campaigns. Grab all of them and add them to your list.

Now you will see the page id of that particular page in my case it’s BuzzFeed with page id “21898300328” copy the numeric id for later use.
Add the Facebook ID number to the end of this URL. Make sure there are no spaces between the equal sign and the ID number.
Then visit the URL in your web browser to view a list of similar Facebook pages. Scroll through the pages for additional targeting audiences. Copy all the active pages and add them to the ads campaigns.
